This Week in Gaming: Epic Hits Pause, Cyberpunk Goes Big Screen
Right, this week's a funny one. No big hardware reveals, a fair few releases to sort through, and a story out of Epic that got people talking (and arguing). Grab a brew and let's crack on.
Epic hits pause on its Marvel and Star Wars shooter
The headline this week is Epic Games delaying its unannounced Marvel and Star Wars shooter, part of a wider non-Fortnite deal with Disney. According to Bloomberg, it was aiming for March and has now slipped, with no new date given.
The bit that's got everyone chatting is how it's being made. The report says the project has been pushed to an "AI first" way of working, with talk of no more hand-written code and art generated through AI workflows. Epic calls it "AI-accelerated development" and says its own developers are still steering. Plenty of developers are reportedly skeptical.
Cyberpunk 2077 is heading to the cinema
Paramount is developing a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 film, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura (the producer behind the Transformers and G.I. Joe films) on board. CD Projekt Red is involved, and its joint CEO Michał Nowakowski described Paramount as a partner who shares their creative ambitions for the franchise. More details are promised "at the appropriate time", so no cast, no director and no date yet. Night City on the big screen could be brilliant or a right mess, and we'll be watching with interest.
Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 slips to 2027
If you're waiting on Forza Horizon 6 for PlayStation, you'll need a bit more patience. The PS5 version, handled by Panic Button, is now due on 26 January 2027. It arrives alongside the game's first paid premium expansion, and Premium Edition buyers can jump in five days early on 21 January. The silver lining for physical fans is that a disc version is planned for launch.
New releases worth knowing about
Tuesday 13 October brought Planet Zoo 2, plus Valor Mortis and Deep Dish Dungeon if you fancy something a bit different. Battlefield 6 also joins Xbox Game Pass that day.
Wednesday saw Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 arrive, which is exactly what you'd hope for: loud, gory and unapologetically daft. The Witch's Bakery and Over the Hill landed too.
Today (Thursday 15 October) is packed. Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea, The Jackbox Party Pack 12 and Bluey's Happy Snaps are all out, along with a Toy Story Retro Roundup bundle. Tales of Eternia Remastered and Beyond These Stars follow tomorrow.
DLC and updates
Marvel Tōkon has confirmed Jane Foster, Venom and Jubilee as Year 1 post-launch fighters, following Phoenix Cyclops in November. Mafia III also got a surprise free 60 FPS update on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the game is currently discounted by 80% on digital storefronts. Rockstar previewed six of GTA VI's radio stations too, covering metal, pop and Dirty South, plus some details on the in-game podcasts.
Coming up
Steam Next Fest runs from 19 to 26 October, so clear some space on your wishlist. Star Trek: Outposts Unknown lands on 20 October, Final Fantasy Resonance on 22 October, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on 23 October. Phantom Blade Zero follows on 28 October, with The Wolf Among Us Remastered close behind on the 29th. GTA 6 is still pencilled in for 19 November.
Frame it
If a game this week earns a place in your collection, give it somewhere decent to live. That's what we're here for at Frame-A-Game. See you next Friday.
