It starts with Metal Gear Solid, where Shadow Moses and Solid Snake set the template for stealth-action. Sons of Liberty followed with the swap nobody saw coming and a plot that still gets argued over. Snake Eater took the series back to the jungle and gave it its best ending. Guns of the Patriots sent an ageing Snake across four warzones to close the story out. And The Phantom Pain opened the whole thing up, dropping Snake into an open world nine years after Ground Zeroes.
